WCPO continues to participate in the Trusting News project designed to build trust

Every good relationship is based on trust.

We hope that your relationship with WCPO is one you find fulfilling and that you believe the information and journalism you receive from us.

But we know that overall people’s trust in the media is extremely low. A Gallup poll from late last year found only 32 percent of respondents say they have "a great deal" or "a fair amount" of trust in the media. 

We have to do better than that as an industry. And at WCPO we want to make sure we are serving your needs.

You deserve coverage that is fair, accurate and responsible. Our goal is to provide that level of journalism for you.

That’s why we continue to participate in the Trusting News project. 

The project, conducted by the Reynolds Journalism Institute, is a national effort to identify strategies newsrooms can use to build trust.

As part of the project, earlier this year we conducted a survey of nearly 500 people about their level of trust in journalism. After that, we talked in-depth with four local individuals from different backgrounds and with different levels of trust in the media.

The researchers with the Trusting News project collected data from participating newsrooms across the country and identified trends and opportunities.

Now, we are beginning the next phase of the project. From now until February, we will be working to build trust with our audience and community.

We will be focused on four areas:

This is more than just part of a project. It is part of our DNA and mission here at WCPO. 

But we know that trust is hard won. This is a process.
